Abstract

This literary study investigates the poetry of Kaab bin Malik on the battles of the Prophet (Peace be upon him), highlighting his life, his scientific endeavors, the environment in which he was raised as well as his literary style and poetic talent. The research reveals the contents of poetry related to the battles in which he took part, as well as his effective role in such events, along with focusing on the main topics such as heroism, martyrs, opponents, arms, and place. This research adopts the descriptive and analytical approaches, as it presents an overview of the poet’s life at the outset of the study, and then it analyzes the poems of battles that broke out between Muslims and polytheists. Despite the significant role of Kaab bin Malik's poetry in documenting the battles of the Prophet (PBUH), current studies lack comprehensive analyses that uncover his work’s historical and artistic elements. This highlights the necessity of an integrated study to deepen the understanding of his literary and cultural contributions. Furthermore, the research presents a comprehensive analysis of the ideas and meanings included in his poetry, and the aesthetic analysis of the language, style, imagery, fiction, and sentiments. The research reached significant findings, including the poetry of Kaab bin Malik on the battles of the Prophet (PBUH) which is characterized by strength and abundance in expressing emotions and thoughts, using a simple and clear language that makes it close to the audience and understandable. His poetry addresses the battles of the Prophet (PBUH) with an intellectual richness that reflects the issues relative to the Mujahideen, disbelievers, and religion, which in turn highlights the importance of this poetry as a literary and historical source that contributes to highlighting the cultural and religious values and concepts during that era. His poetry is characterized by balance in employing fiction and figurative language, as it selects the appropriate imagery for each situation accurately, using similes, metaphors, and figures of speech efficiently. It also adheres to the Khalili meters and demonstrates a variation in its application, which enhances the attractiveness of its poetry and its capability to express various poetic purposes effectively and elegantly.
