منهج البيضاوي وموقفه من المجاز في الآيات المتشابهات في تفسيره أنوار التنزيل وأسرار التأويل : دراسة وصفية تحليلية

Abstract

The Ash'arite scholars deal with similar verses using the method of hermeneutical approach and Al-Tafwīd approach in clarifying the meanings of ambiguous verses in the Al-Qur’an and exalting what is not worthy of God the Almighty. Among these prominent Ash'aris is Al-Imām Al-Baydāwi, who contributed and devoted what he could to this field. Hence, this research aims to study the metaphor according to Al-Baydāwi in his tafsīr of Anwar Al-Tanzīl Wa Asrār Al-Ta’wīl. This research focuses on examples of similar verses in the Al-Qur’an, in order to reveal Al-Baydāwi’s stance on the metaphor words in similar verses, and then clarifying Al-Baydāwi’s point of view on them. This research adopts the descriptive and analytical approach, through which research is carried out by describing the concept of the metaphor and similar verses of the Al-Qur’an, and then collecting information related to Al-Baydāwi and his contributions to rhetorical studies. Then, this study also discusses the similar verses of the Al-Qur’an that contain metaphorical words, whether it is a linguistic metaphor or a cognitive metaphor. Nevertheless, this study also analyses Al-Baydawi’s interpretations of these verses according to the rhetorical analysis, which the meanings are based on Arabic texts from the Qur’an, the Prophet’s Hadith, and poetic verses. This research reached the results that Al-Baydāwi adhered to the presence of metaphor in the Arabic language and the Al-Qur’an itself, as he also applied it in interpreting Qur’anic verses according to his understanding, especially in similar Qur’anic verses. This research also found that Al-Baydāwi followed the hermeneutical approach in interpreting the Qur’anic metaphorical verses such as hand, face, and chair that were mentioned. Al-Baydāwi also had a tendency to interpret these Qur’anic verses to avoid God’s resemblance to His creations.
