This research aims to identify the attitudes and manners of Arabic language learners at South-Eastern university of Sri Lanka and Eastern University, Sri Lanka toward linguistics, as they are something new for them compared to what they have learned in Arabic language and the literature at the pre-university level, based on traditional Arabic sciences. Therefore, this research investigates the reality of linguistics and differentiate them from traditional Arabic sciences in the view of students concerned, and their desire to continue in learning them. The researcher employed the descriptive and analytical approaches, by following two approaches, qualitative and its related instruments, as well as quantitative and its employed instruments. The researcher conducted the interviews with five of faculty members from the two universities in this study, by distributing the questionnaires to 64 students of their students, and results was then analyzed by using the Statistical Package Program for Social Sciences (SPSS). The most important finding shows that the majority of students did not understand the truth of linguistics and could not differentiate them form traditional Arabic sciences in theory. Although they were in favor toward some linguistic aspects such as the linguistic system, however almost one third wanted to remove the linguistics from their university courses.
