Abstract
The study seeks to highlight the importance of the narrator and narrated to him in Arabic novel, and to what extend its contribution was effective in analysis of narrative; because of the importance on its direct relationship to the narrative, since the narrator and narrated to him represent the two important pillars of narrative structure; due to their relation to the text. That will help us to identify them in the analysis of the narrative more accurately. Therefore, the researcher aimed for descriptive approach to study and identify the terms that construct the narrative structure. The study also showed the functions of both the narrator and narrated to him, their relationship and their signs. The study applications - in the light of the theory of the narrator and narrated to him – was made in three selected novels by Ali Ahmed Bakathir (1969): "Safety Pastor", "Biography of Brave" and "The Red Rebel”. The study showed that the narrator and narrated to him are the pillars of the narrative structure, and the knowledge about the relationship between them helps in better understanding of the text. In addition, identifying the functions of the narrator and narrated to him and their signs, contributed to the analysis the kind of dialogue between them.
