Abstract

This research aims to investigate the extent of students’ use, perceive of usefulness and actual use of mobile applications, in the process of learning Arabic language. In order to achieve the research objectives, the researcher uses the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Venkatesh & Davis (2000) that studies the relationship between expected benefit, ease of use, and intentions toward actual use. The research sample consisted of 162 male and female students who are currently specializing in Teaching Arabic as a Second Language in Kulliyyah of Education at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The questionnaire was used as a tool to collect data, which was disseminated via online Google Form to the representatives for each level of study; requesting their assistance in publishing it in their WhatsApp group. The research questions were examined for the necessity of descriptive statistical analysis using SPSS (version 22), following the quantitative approach of Nardi (2006) and Pallant (2013) where these authors provided a useful and step-by-step guide in analyzing data using SPSS for actual frequencies analysis. Findings of the study showed that most of the TAASL students at the IIUM felt that mobile applications are easy to use and useful for students to learn Arabic language. They intend to use mobile applications in their actual learning, which conforms with the theory of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Davis and Venkatesh.
