Abstract
This research aims to identify the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral treatment program aimed at reducing the level of social anxiety among a sample of tenth-grade female students in the Sultanate of Oman. The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental approach through two groups, control and experimental. The researcher also adopted a qualitative approach through personal interviews to reach an in-depth understanding of the definitions and meanings provided by the respondents about the situation they were exposed to. That is to support the results obtained by quantifying the characteristics of their behavior according to the results of the cognitive-behavioral treatment program and their answers to the social anxiety scale. The research sample consisted of sixteen students in the tenth grade. To analyze the data, the researcher used frequencies, means , standard deviations, Cronbach's alpha test to determine the stability of the items of the social anxiety scale, Pearson's correlation coefficient to measure the degree of association, and the Mann-White test for the differences between the mean scores of the two independent samples (control and experimental) in the dimensional measurement. The researcher also used the Wilcoxon test to examine the differences between the mean scores of two related samples (experimental) in the pre- and post-measurements and the post and follow-up measurements. The Black Gain equation was also used in the analysis. The results showed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the post-measurement on the social anxiety scale, in favor of the experimental group. These differences are attributed to the application of the program. The results also showed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre- and post-measurements on the social anxiety scale in favor of the post-measurement. These differences are also attributed to the application of the program. There were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the post and follow-up measurements on the social anxiety scale.
