For a long time, peptic ulcer disease has been one of the major reasons for surgical interference and for many gastrointestinal conditions, causing high rate of morbidity and mortality, although that the rates of gastrointestinal conditions varies tremendously around the world but it has been noticed that the duodenal ulcers are more frequent among the western population in Europe and USA, while the Gastric ulcer is more common among the Asians. And as the prevalence of this medical condition keep increasing over time; it is expected that peptic ulcer will become a serious problem overtime that will affect the life style and the economy in the future. Peptic ulcers are deep gastrointestinal lesion that cause a breach in the integrity of the gastric wall and penetrate the mucosa and the muscularis mucosa, to reach to the deep layers of the gastric wall. In the past; it was believed that the peptic ulcer is caused by uncontrolled increase in the gastric acid secretion, which had been proved to be wrong later as so many of peptic ulcer patients had a normal gastric acid level which has been found to be caused later by imbalance between aggressive factors and defensive mechanisms. In recent years so many chemical and pharmacological compounds has been used to obtain new medications as a life saving measures to ensure a long lasting life, and so many of those were herbal and natural materials and so many of those helped in the development of the pharmacological tools. In this study we induced gastric ulcer by giving a group of 60 rats pure 100% ethanol for one time at the beginning of the study, those were divided into four minor groups, we tried to prevent the gastric ulcer by using a Chinese traditional herbal medicine (XSYWW) in one of them and compare the healing outcomes that we observed using the light microscope and scanning electron microscope of subject that have been on ranitidine, (XSYWW) and the positive control group for same period of time. The study has shown that the (XSYWW) is effective in preventing the ethanol from causing gastric ulcer to a certain extent and it was effective as well in accelerate the healing process but it results wasn’t as impressive as that of the subjects who were on ranitidine.en_US
