Abstract

This study is concerned with critical efforts of Al-sayyid Abdul-Rahman bin Obeidil Allah Al-Saqqaf (1881-1955) who was the mufti of Hadaramaut. These efforts are presented in his book named “Al-ʻudu al-hindi fi amāli-a ʻan diwāani al-kindi” and others as it is available.The study aims to clarify his critical views and to state the extent of criticism in the initial works and its links with originality of the old criticism, as well as strive to connect the relationship between those views and their counterparts in the modern criticism. To achieve these aims, the researcher uses the descriptive and analytical method. Furthermore, this thesis identifies the life of Ibnu Obeidil Allah and his literature through three important points: the growing up yeers of his life and the signs of his genius, religious leadership and reform efforts, and his literary contributions. Moreover, this research describes the criticsm personality of Al-Saqqaf in reviewing the most prominent of its components, in addition, to clarifying his critical methodology and its standards, and investigating his critique properties. Then, it goes to present his critical efforts with Al-mutanabi and other poets, criticism issues, and criticism of criticism. The study concludes that Ibnu Obeidil Allah is one of the critics distinguished in the modern era with his original examination, and his in depths process, and approaches to some modern criticism theories. This study also examines the most important literature and critical cases as well as promote it to the level of theorizing and rulemaking. Most importantly, this study evaluates his juristic personality in provisions of literary criticism from the religious and congenital perspective without disruption the standards of art criticism and its metrices. This phenomenon proclaims the study to expand and explore the depths of Islamic literature and its criticism.
