Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Arabic Debating Club in promoting the Arabic speaking skills at IIUM. It examines the effectiveness of the club based on elements: membership, trainings, and club’ performance. The researcher has taken as sample the whole members of the Arabic debating club for Data collection. In addition, he adopted the descriptive method in which questionnaire and interview were used as instrument for data and analyzed by employing SPSS program basing on frequency distribution, frequency table, percentages, t-tests and alpha Cronbach in attempt to find the result of analysis. Hence, the main finding of the study revealed that the most of the Arabic Debating Club’s members recognize the effectiveness of the club; moreover they agree that they benefit from the club in improving their speaking skills as the study proved the existence of positive correlation between the club’s effectiveness and the Members’ benefit. Finally, the researcher crowns his study by providing some resolutions and suggestions in order to further the effectiveness of the club in promoting the Arabic speaking skills and may to be adopted by other concerned universities and institutions.
