Abstract

The rapid growth of the Internet has opened the door for research on how best it can be exploited for commercial purposes across the globe. While different companies in different countries have already implemented e-commerce at full capacity, the development of e-commerce in the gulf country of Oman is at the initial stage. This research therefore, explores the extent to which e-commerce has been adopted by organizations in Oman. Based on this objective, this research surveyed 200 organizations in Oman using self-addresses questionnaires. The finding from the survey indicates a fair level of e-commerce adoption among organization in Oman. In addition, the study also found that many organizations in Oman are using the Internet frequently for activities other than e-commerce. The study also found that factors such as consumer resistant, lack of e-commerce expertise and unfavorable managerial perception contributes to the slow process of e-commerce adoption in Oman.
