Abstract

The life of Waziri Junaid is multi-dimensional in significance. He obtained his education from the local schools before proceeding to study multi-disciplinary books from which he became acquainted with indigenous and foreign cultures. Thereafter, he took government appointments, being one of the veritable traditional scholars, astute educationist, politician-cum- sunni ascetic. He was fascinatingly decorated with political ornaments and emblems of honour, and travelled widely to many African and Arabian countries acquiring vast knowledge in literature that enabled him to produce numerous literary works both in poetry and prosody, totalling 60 documentations in diverse areas. He has a standard collection in different poetic fields which qualified him to be one of the most talented poets of Nigeria. This talented poet had good command of poetry, swift cognisance and admirable creativity with which he could perfectly describe all that he witnessed, or come to his mind. Most of his poems were composed during his journeys while narrating his experiences and imagination in his leisure time. The Collection of Waziri Junaid is full of rhetorical expressions which qualified it to be a topic of high-level academic research. At this juncture, this research aims at exposing what is in that Collection pertaining to rhetorical expressions, especially what contains the science of logic and its components, such as the categorization and types of the descriptive and narrative styles.The research also examines dependent sentences; separation and linkage and their respective places. It also examines opening and closing statements, their respective uses and ratings in terms of linguistic beauty. Moreover, the researcher examines the contents of the Collection to find out the definite and indefinite articles and their rhetorical classifications. The theme of all these studies is the “Collection of Waziri Junaid: A Rhetorical Study and Analyses” with inferences from other texts in a bid to establish and strengthen the formulated rules in numerous poetic meters.The research has found that rhetorical expression has been the crux of Wazir Junaid’s collection. Consequently, the research maintains that Waziri Junaid was a talented poet with swift cognisance and admirable creativity in composing poems. In addition, he was gifted with eloquent speech, persuasive method and effective fiction, which qualified him to be one of Nigerian’s best poets.
