Abstract

Sheikh ‘Abd Allah ibn Muḥammad al-Nuri is one of the great Muslim preachers and intellectuals in Kuwait. He was conversant and an expert in the field of da’wah and very influential in his society. He had taken great efforts to produce enormous intellectual works. Apart from religious knowledge, he also possessed vast knowledge of other sciences. In his later life, al-Nuri engaged himself in preaching about Islam through charitable projects in which Allah granted him a great success. His individual efforts had given him the opportunity to establish various institutions. His preaching through charitable projects focused on knowledge and educational centres because of his realisation of the importance of knowledge and its great impact on the advancement and development of the Ummah, and also because knowledge has become the authority and powerful weapon in modern times. Al-Nuri was not reluctant to use both classical and contemporary means in his preaching on Islam. He neither met classical means with contempt nor modern ones with prohibition, but followed the juristic maxim which says, “The means have the same rulings as the objectives” and applied it in his preaching. Nonetheless, he used diverse preaching methods to make his da’wah conform to all segments of society. This aspect is what characterised his da’wah and made it widespread and appreciable. Thus, in this research, the researcher presents al-Nuri’s intellectual career and achievements in the field of da’wah and the characteristics of his preaching method. The main aim of this task is to make his preaching method a model for those aiming to be successful preachers and allow them to benefit from his blessed preaching experience.
