Publication A comparative study on the muslims' and christians' understanding of the meaning of 'Allah' in Nigeria(Kuala Lumpur: International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Ja`e, Zakariyyah H. YakubThe aim of this study is to examine the Christian perspective on the concept of (Allah) in Nigeria, which contradicts the true understanding of the concept of (Allah) in Islam. It begins with a discussion on the concept of Allah according to the Christian scholars in Nigeria followed by the Muslim scholars in Nigeria. The research continues with the explanation on how the concept of (Allah) is presented in the Qur’Én, ×adith and the work of classical and contemporary Muslim scholars. The methodology applied in this study is textual analysis, using descriptive and analytical methods on numerous works on the subject. This study identifies that most of the current module used to understand the concept of Allah by Christian scholars is wrong. Finally, the study concludes that it is crucial for both Muslims and Christians to have a comprehensive knowledge about the concept of (Allah). The proper knowledge would guide them to understand the real God of the entire universe14 86 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Awareness and respect towards other religions among Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur : a survey(Gombak, Selangor : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2016, 2016) ;Fatimah Azzahra binti MohamadAfter almost sixty years of independence in a multiracial, multicultural and multi-religious country, it seems Malaysians have yet to properly mature regarding the ways in which they interact with adherents of other religions. Today, we can witness the many religious issues occurring in Malaysia which illustrate the lack of understanding and tolerance of each other. It seems that religion is the cause of conflict. This research is about the diversity of religions in Malaysia which focuses on measurement and evaluation of the level of awareness of Malaysians and respect towards other religions. For the purpose of this study, the discussion revolves around IslÉm, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity, and covers the Kuala Lumpur area. This research comprises library research and fieldwork and contains textual and contextual aspects. The textual aspect explores the IslÉm, Buddhist, Hindu and Christian perspectives on religious awareness and tolerance. Various secondary religious materials were used to gain insights into the teachings of various religions concerning tolerance towards others. The research does not discuss the theological aspects of any living religion in Malaysia in-depth; rather, it focuses on the human-to-human relationship in an environment of diverse religions. The contextual aspect of the research analyses the attitude of Kuala Lumpur respondents towards other religions. From a total population of 7.6 million in Kuala Lumpur, a random sample size of approximately 400 was deemed relevant for this study taken from both Muslim and non-Muslim respondents. The data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The result of the study found that Kuala Lumpur respondents have a high level of general knowledge about other religions (49.0%), a moderate level of observation towards adherents of other religions (69.3%), a high level of awareness towards other religions (63.2%), a high level of importance of understanding other religions (49.8%), and a moderate level of attitude towards understanding other religions (50.2%). These results show that the respondents in Kuala Lumpur are aware and do respect people of other beliefs. In fact, they have a good religious relationship with other people within their religions and outside. The majority of the respondents also agreed that lacking understanding of other religions causes religious intolerance. However, the results also found that, even though the attitude and understanding of the respondents towards other religions are considered high, they do not really interfere, touch upon, or discuss openly about religion in their social interaction.26 43 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The characteristics of Jews and Christians in the Qur`an : a study of selected tafasir(Kuala Lumpur :International Islamic University Malaysia,2017, 2017) ;Islam, Mohammad AminulThis research seeks to identify the characteristics of Jews and Christians based on the verses of the Holy Qur’an. The study found that some of those verses indicate that the Christians believe in Allah s.w.t and what has been revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to their Prophet Isa (peace be upon him). Other verses show that they do not believe in Allah as He wants, and what He revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This thesis acknowledges that some verses say Allah granted to the Jews what He had not granted to anyone else in the world, He Himself says, He has chosen as the best Ummah (people) the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Sometimes it seems to the readers of the Qur’an that the Christians and the Jews are the same and sometimes it is like Christians are closer to Muslims than the Jews. Moreover, the Christians seem to be better than the Muslims to readers of the Qur’an sometimes. Hence, there appear some contradictions in the Qur’anic verses, which might lead the readers to confusion over the Holy Qur’an. In conjunction, this paper aims to clarify the contradictions among the Qur’anic verses regarding Jewish and Christian characteristics using descriptive and analytical methods. This research is firmly to be just to those who have good characteristics to testify them as good and who are not good, to testify them as not good according to the Qur’anic verses. On top of that, this research contributes to building a peaceful religious co-existence among multi-religious societies. The most significant finding of this research is that there is no conflict within the Qur’anic verses concerning the characteristics of Jews and Christians. However, what appear here, as conflicts and contradictions among Qur’anic verses, are merely literal. Not all Jews and Christians have bad characteristics; rather, according to the Qur’an, there are some Jews and Christians who have good manners. The findings of the paper will tremendously fulfill its objectives and contribute to generating a peaceful religious co-existence among Muslims, Jews and Christians.15 27 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) and National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) and their responses to contemporary issues : an objective study from a muslim perspective(Kuala Lumpur : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Mohd Faridh Hafez bin Mhd OmarMalaysia is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial and multi-religious state. The Muslims constitute 61.3%, Christians 9.1%, Hindus 6.3%, Buddhist 19.2%, Sikhs 0.9% and others 2.6% of the population of Malaysia. This study examines the stated position and views of the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) of Malaysia on religious freedom, the Islamization approach in Malaysia and the use of the word ‘AllÉh’ by Christians. This study argues that examination of the stated views and responses of non-Muslim citizens of Malaysia about issues of freedom of religion, Islamization approach and the use of the word ‘AllÉh’ by Malaysia’s non-Muslim citizens is important for the preservation and maintenance of religious and racial harmony and political stability in the country. The study used qualitative method of data collection. The study examined CFM and NECF online data official documents and newspapers and conducted in-depth interviews as main sources of data collection. The study found that the objectives of the CFM and NECF and the issues that led to their establishment and their focus/target group are different. Yet, both organizations are similarly concerned with the objectivity of their organization and want to honor the spirit of the Federal Constitution in their stated positions and responses toward issues that are related to Christian interests and rights to freedom of religion and the use of the word ‘AllÉh’. The study found that CFM and NECF have suggested interpretations of the Federal Constitution in such a manner that can preserve religious harmony, freedom of religion and respect for the rights of followers of other religions in Malaysia. The study also found that the CFM and NECF also suggest that one way to overcome religious differences and potential inter-religious conflict is to promote inter-religious dialogues among the followers of different religions in Malaysia. Finally, the study, among others, recommends that government agencies and religious institutions play a more pro-active role in making policies on propagating and engaging adherents of various religions in Malaysia.14 25 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Christian usage of the term "Allah" for god in the Malay Language :|ban analytical study(Kuala Lumpur : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Ahmad Faizal bin RamlyThe controversy of the Christian usage of the term “Allah” to translate “God” (English) or “Eloah”, “El” and “Eloahim” (Hebrew) into the Malay language and the way it has been developed have upset both the Muslims and Christians alike. Many people who comment on this issue are not really clear about its comprehensive context, hence creating confusion and tension between the two religious communities, and even with the other communities in the nation too. This study examines the use of “Allah” by Christians in Malaysia in the context of Christian theological understanding compared with the usage of “Allah” in Islamic theology. Besides the theological aspect, this work also analyzes several arguments presented by both Christians and Muslims who agree or disagree with this usage. This study refers to printed materials such as books, original documents and other relevant materials. It also conducts interviews with the involved parties and makes references to their press statements. As the usage is on trial in court when the research is carried out, this study also uses Internet sources recommended by the concerned bodies, especially for the arguments of the Christians. The study finds that this issue has a very long historical root and it only reappears after an effort to mend the situation was initiated by the government. This study suggests that sensitive issues related to religions and the Constitution should be resolved through negotiations and inter-faith dialogues conducted by the academia, clerics and executive bodies and done with integrity and transparency to convince the public, rather than through the courts.5 31 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The clash of civilizations : an analysis from an Islamic perspective(Kuala Lumpur : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Kotob, Mohamad SalehThe Clash of Civilizations theory has made waves since 1993. It described the post-Cold War world as one where eight civilizations clash frequently on national, regional, and sometimes international levels, as a direct result of the increased importance of civilizational factors in the identity politics that predominate global affairs today. Focus was placed on the Islamic and Sinic civilizations as two “challengers” with the greatest capacity to confront today’s most powerful civilization, the West. The theory is not without flaws, and continues to be critiqued and counter-critiqued, but continues to hold sway in Western policy-making and academic circles. Unfortunately, many of the Islamic responses to it seemed more like rebuttals rather than rigorous, evidence-based analyses, and did not reference relevant Islamic textual evidence and principles. As the theory interweaves religion, politics, and history together, an interdisciplinary approach that combines those three angles is vital. Theoretically, certain socio-political aspects were explored and, more importantly, the Islamic perspective as delineated by the Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and relevant Islamic International Relations principles. Judging from a confluence of Islamic factors such as the law of tadāfuʻ, its relationship to the broad struggle between truth and falsehood, the largely civilizational roots of anti-Muslim and anti-Western sentiment, and Islam’s ambitions toward religiopolitical paramountcy and leadership; the Clash of Civilizations theory does carry significant truth, particularly as it relates to Islam and the West. This was also established practically by performing a historical analysis of the relationship between Islam and the West in history, and a political analysis of that relationship in current times. Despite frequent clash, the uniqueness of Islamic tolerance throughout its history was most evident, as attested to by Western proponents themselves. The West understands Islam’s broad spiritual appeal and manifest capacity to challenge Western monopoly on global affairs and world order. Considering the West’s surviving power and political supremacy, and its unrestrained war on what it purports is extremist Islam, which many in the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds view as a war on Islam itself, the onus is on the West to reverse the current clash of civilizations with Islam, or to preclude an impending one.1 21 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The concept of chosenness in judaism and christianity :a comparative analysis(Kuala Lumpur: International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Ros Izanie binti IsmailThe concept or doctrine of chosenness is mutually exclaimed by Judaism and Christianity. Both religions have their own perspective of chosenness. Chosenness is a significant concept that has shaped the identity of both religions throughout history. Chosenness entails a sense of exclusiveness of the religion and its religious community. The concept could be an important factor in determining the relationship of the Jews with Christians and other religious communities. This research attempts to explore the understanding of chosenness from the point of view of both religions. In consequence the similarities and differences between these two religions in addressing chosenness could be examined. The data and information relevant to Jewish and Christian notions of chosenness are collected and gathered. Apart from books, articles and reliable websites, the important material relied on for the research purposes is the New King James Version Bible. The understanding of both religions on issues related to chosenness namely; covenant, salvation by laws versus salvation by faith, holy land, and exclusiveness versus universal mission are compared and analysed. The research discovers that to a certain extent both religions have similar understanding of chosenness. However they differ on some other points.19 34 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The concept of qiwamah according to Amina Wadud and Muhmammad Sa`id Ramadan Al-Buti : A comparative study(Kuala Lumpur :Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia, 2017, 2017) ;Omar, Yousef Abdul RahimThe subject of Qiwamah has been widely misconceived as implying men’s superiority over women. This notion brought about four concerns that can be found in the verse of Qiwamah; the preference of men (faddala), the permit to be physically abusive towards women (darb), obedience to man (qanitat) and the claim that the classical interpretation is biased. Two scholars, Amina Wadud and Muhammad Sa’id Ramadan al-Buti, oppose the notion of men’s superiority over women in Qiwamah. The purpose of this research is to present a comparative study of similarities and differences between the views of Amina Wadud, a Muslim feminist scholar, and Muhammad Sa’id Ramadan al-Buti, a traditional Muslim scholar, on Qiwamah with focus in the area of the scholars’ objectives and background of study, their arguments and their methodology of interpretation. Thus, this is to identify which argument is more academically sound in order to apply the concept of Qiwamah appropriately. The method of analysis employed in this research is primarily textual analysis. In the second chapter, this research examines the meaning of Qiwamah, ar-Rijal and an-Nisa’ from the classical dictionary, classical Qu’ranic exegeses and the English translation of the Qur’an. The perspectives and arguments made by Amina Wadud and Muhammad Sa’id Ramadan al-Buti will be presented in chapter three. The fourth chapter aims to compare their arguments based on their objectives, consistencies and methodologies. This is followed by the conclusion of this research in chapter five.5 26 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The concept of sin according to St. Augustine (430 A.D) and Al-Ghazali (1111 A.D) :a comparative analysis(Gombak : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2010, 2010) ;Helmi Afizal Bin ZainalThe objective of this study is to analyze the concept of sin according to the perspectives of two different prominent scholars, namely Augustine and al-Ghazali. This concept is really important to both scholars as they emphasize the concept and some related issues in most of their works. Both of them justify sin as the factor that keeps human beings separated from God and His love. As the two of them stress the consequences that can be inflicted from sin, they also highlight the importance of liberating oneself from sin. Despite that, there is dissimilarity that made them totally different to each other. In understanding the relationship between man and sin, Augustine believes that human beings are sinful, whereas al-Ghazali maintains that humans are born pure and free from any corruption. So, based on these variations this study has found that there are several similarities as well as differences are found between the two scholars in perceive the concept of sin.7 25 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Contemporary discourse on gender equality in Indonesia :an analysis of the views of Siti Musdah Mulia(Gombak, Selangor : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2016, 2016) ;Tias Nurul FauziahThis research is an attempt to study and analyze the contemporary discourse on gender equality in Indonesia developed by Indonesian Muslim intellectual, Siti Musdah Mulia. To achieve this, it explores and examines the views of Siti Musdah Mulia on gender equality. Musdah is one of the leading Muslim feminists in Indonesia but her thought on feminism and gender equality are considered most controversial. They are propagated among her students at IAIN and also in the organizations that she is a member of such as Fatayat NU, LKAJ (Institute for Study of Religion and Gender), IRCP (Indonesian Conference on Religion and Peace), Megawati Institute even to the levels of government, namely the Ministry of Religion, in which she is the coordinator to the team drafting the CLD (Counter Legal Draft) for KHI (Compilation of Islamic Legal Laws). In this research, the method that has been adopted is textual analysis, using descriptive and analytical methods by referring to numerous works on the subject. It is contended that her thoughts on feminism and gender equality are not independent but influenced by liberal movement and presented as Islamic thought. Hence, this study analyses and criticizes her views from an Islamic perspective. This study reveals that Musdah’s stand of gender equality is based on humanism i.e. human rights and equality in quantity. This basis is used by her to read the principle of Taw??d, the Qur’an and Islamic jurisprudence in order to produce a new interpretation of Islamic teachings to support gender equality as understood by gender feminism. It is concluded that Musdah’s views have considerably deviated from Islamic teachings and are destructive towards the Muslim family institution.27 8 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The emergence of Shiism and its influence in Malacca :an analytical study(Kuala Lumpur :International Islamic University Malaysia,2017, 2017) ;Hamzah bin JantanThe movement of Shiism can be traced despite being illegal through a fatwa endorsed by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM). In Malacca, its presence is detected since it draws the attention of the local Malays. This study analyses the emergence of Shiism and its influence on the Malay community in Malacca. This study utilises in-depth interviews involving several local Shῑah, officers from religious institutions and the local Malay community. It also uses textual analysis methods. This research specifically examines the historical background of the Shῑah group in Malacca and its development. This study also explicates the doctrines of Shiism which are used by the local Malay Shῑah which reflect the understanding of the local Malay Shῑah and their reason for existing. This study explores the impacts of the Shῑah group on the Malay Muslim community in Malacca and discovers their reaction of the threat of Shiism, the unity of the ummah, and peaceful life. The study finds that the Shῑah existence in Malacca has been much inspired with the Iranian Revolution led by the supreme spiritual leader Khomeini. They lack knowledge and give incorrect explanations on Shῑah practices. The local Malay Shῑah are more focused on the imamah rather than aqidah which shows that they are more concerned with the branch issue over the main issue. It makes them more fanatical and extreme. It also finds that the beliefs and practices of the local Malay Shῑah create confusion and an uncomfortable situation within the local Muslim community. The tense atmosphere exists in Felda Kemendor, Jasin. It was sparked by the issue of building a tomb in a graveyard. This study concludes with the need for the Muslim community in Malacca to be exposed to knowledge and information about Shiism so that they can avoid from been tricked and manipulated by the Shῑah arguments. Proper knowledge and comprehensive views of Islamic teaching are needed so they can guide the local Malay Shῑah and the local Malay community to the real truth which is the teaching of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamaah.21 4 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The encounter of Christianity with traditional African IBO religion : a study Chinua Achebe`s "Things fall apart"(Gombak : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2005, 2005) ;Owoyemi, Musa YusufThis research work examines the encounter of Christianity with Traditional African Ibo Religion in Nigeria, as recounted in the novel “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe. This particular work is a novelty because it has attempted to do a study of religion through a novel, which is seen primarily as a fictional narrative. But going by the maxim that it is not all novels that are fictitious, this thesis set about studying how two religions, Traditional African Ibo religion and Christianity, related with each other and what happened when they met in a battle for the minds and souls of the people. Moreover, this particular novel in question provides a perspective of what happened in the Ibo society of Nigeria, albeit, in a subtle way using imaginary characters, when Christianity, with the assistance of Colonialism, entered the hinterland of the nation. Using the historical, narrative, analytical and critical methodologies, this research scrutinized the novel thoroughly in studying this encounter and came out with a number of findings which could help in future encounters of religions, especially as the world is now a place in which religions are bound to come into contact with one another quite often and in variety of ways. Among the findings that were reached by this research is that, the whole encounter was marred by monologue, injustice and intolerance, and, at the same time, the methodology of approach was wrong and inhuman. In the light of this, the research recommends a four fold method of phenomenology, tolerance, dialogue and criticism, which could be referred to as Phenotodiacritism in all future encounters of religions, especially in the Globalized world of today, and it also affirmed that religion, as a phenomenon, could be studied through a novel in a field which could be called Novelogy of Religion, just as we have Psychology, Sociology etc of religion.1 35 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication The impact of postmodernist culture on the Malay youth lifestyles :the case of Black Metal music in Malaysia(Gombak : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2010, 2010) ;Nor Hayati Mohd RedzwanAbout three years ago, there were reports about an anti-establishment and antireligious cult in the northern states of Malaysia which specifically targets teenagers. This cult is identified as the “Black Metal music group.” The Black Metal ideology, which is one of the genres in popular music, is formed on a basic idea of straightforward anti-religion and disbelief in inherent values to existence or society. Popular music, including the Black Metal music, comes from a world-wide subculture which is valued as a postmodern influence. Therefore, the Malays are approaching a postmodern era which will begin to shape their lives. Realizing what has happened, the issue of Black Metal music which confronts the Malay youths has traumatized and surprised the public at all levels. With Black Metal music, it is assumed that the Malay youths have been exposed to the storm of postmodernism. Indeed, this influential phenomenon is not only diminishing the Malay Muslim lifestyle, but it also destroys their faith, with or without their consciousness. Thus, this research is an attempt to present the conception of modernity and postmodernism in modern Malay society. It also gives a clear depiction of what Black Metal music issue is all about. The objective is to analyze which mode of postmodernism has influenced the Malay society, particularly how it shapes the young Malay youths’ lifestyle and more specifically, to identify the impact of Black Metal on Malay youths’ akhl?q. This research utilized both library research and field work where references comprised of books, journals and interviews.11 24 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Islamic and buddhist prspecrtives on the issues of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) : an analysis(Gombak, Selangor : International Islamic University Malaysia, 2016, 2016) ;Mohd Firdaus bin AhmadThe issue of LGBT has been discussed by different experts and scholars from many perspectives and fields of study. However, these perspectives include only those which are considered scientific in nature while religion is always excluded from the discussion. This is due to the influence of secularism which urges the separation between worldly matters and religion. It has caused the process of elimination of religious influence from anything related to human activity and life. The scientific view on LGBT is a mere description without any attempt to derive any moral judgment. Consequently, although the practice of same-sex sexual activity has been proven to be hazardous to the physical and mental health of human beings, the issue is still not being considered as immoral as putting immoral status to it is considered to be immoral in the first place. The view of religion on the issue of LGBT needs to be re-emphasized as it will solve the problems in this matter.13 34 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Islamization of human knowledge : an overview on the concept, scope and method(Kuala Lumpur :International Islamic University Malaysia, 2015, 2015) ;Junaid, MuhammadThe idea of Islamization of Human Knowledge (IOHK) is one of the most promising intellectual agendas of Islamic resurgence and a controversial issue that has caught significant attention of both Muslim and non-Muslim thinkers of the Modern era. The pioneers of IOHK have struggled rigorously to conceptualise the idea of IOHK as an epistemological and methodological solution for the plight of Muslim Ummah. In spite of sincere devotion and committed efforts of scholars, this seminal project has been surrounded by various misconceptions. The sceptical attitude has caused some basic misunderstandings about the scope, objectives and methodology of IOHK. Realising that, this study aims to analyse the concept of IOHK based on various definitions presented by scholars. Using analytical and critical approaches, the study examines these definitions and highlights the extended scope, objectives and methodology of IOHK. It also evaluates the works of its proponents and opponents on the different perspectives. In addition, this study attempts to analyze the possible use of the term ‘relevantization’ for Islamic sciences which are named Islamic Revealed Knowledge Disciplines (IRKDs) in IIUM. This study notices that despite numerous hindrances and critics, the project of IOHK has gone through gradual progress in terms of its framework, scope, objectives and methodology since its inception. Its scope and objectives are extended to the production of textbooks and Islamization of disciplines to the development of Islamic thought and its methodology. This study also reveals that some disciplines like economics and Islamic banking have captured ample attention of scholars and practical efforts have been made, whereas other sciences lack serious interest in order to implement IOHK into a reality. The programme of IOHK has offered a lot in the form of a discourse and clarified its concepts which need practical implementation. However, this uphill task requires more concentrated and collective efforts holistically to achieve its goals. This study highlights the obstacles which need to be addressed by scholars.22 22 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Maulana Muhammad Abdur Rahim`s (1918-1987) discourse on secularism(Kuala Lumpur :International Islamic University Malaysia,2010, 2010) ;Amin, FaroqueThe present research examines the contribution of Maulana Muhammad Abdur Rahim (1918-1987) in the development of Islamic thought in Bangladesh through his intellectual and socio-political activities. The core discussion is evolved around his discourse on Secularism; the doctrine that gained wide acceptance among the Bangladeshi Muslim society in the post-independence period. This study is based on the investigation of Abdur Rahim`s life and his intellectual legacy. Abdur Rahim`s theoretical discourse on Secularism is primarily found in two of his books; Philosophical Foundation of the Western Civilization and Contemporary Thoughts. The Research predominantly adopts a textual analysis method to examine both the primary (i.e. Abdur Rahim`s writings) and secondary sources which deal with the issue. This study attempts·to understand the methodological initiatives he set in place while introducing Secularism from Islamic perspectives. The research finds that he considers Secularism as the major outcome of the European Renaissance and an umbrella doctrine for some major ideologies. He develops a conceptual framework of studying Secularism by considering it as the source of three significant thoughts; Theory of Evolution, Psychoanalysis Theory of Freud and Marxism. According to him, Secularism and the above mentioned three ideologies are interdependent in nature. Abdur Rahim stated that, early Secularism resembled the idea of separation of political and religious affairs, whereas the modem Secularism expresses a denial of the religion. According to his analysis, this development occurred due to the contributions of the three major theoretical concepts in the evolution of contemporary Secularism. Hence, Secularism has contributed in the development of those three theories and vice-versa. An analysis of Abdur Rahim`s discourse shows that, he was an exponent of contemporary Islamic revivalist thought, striving to achieve the integrated development of Muslim Ummah worldwide and re-establish the Muslim civilization based of revelation, Divine justice and universal humanity. To uphold the essence of Islamic code of life, he finally rejects Secularism and considers it invalid for the Muslims. Abdur Rahim has presented the discussion of modem socio-political and economic theories for the first time from Islamic perspectives to the Bengali readers. This research concludes with some insights into the influence of other scholars on him as well as the significance of his discourse for the Bangladeshi society. Intellectual contribution of Abdur Rahim through writing profoundly in Bengali is found germane yet to the contemporary Bangladeshi society and the situation of increasing tension between Islam and Secularism there.10 20 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Murad Wilfried Hofmann`s views of the western worlview on religion : an analysis(Kuala Lumpur :International Islamic University Malaysia, 2016, 2016) ;Omercic, SemirReligion in the current Western worldview is misplaced. Through Murad Wilfried Hofmann’s understanding of the complex nature of this misplacement, religion can be understood and brought back to be visible and contributive. Muslims understand the Western worldview as something which puts religion in an invisible space. The Westerners, however, are longing for an alternative in filling the empty life which is devoid of deep meaning. On the other hand, they see the Islamic concept of religion as a threat to their unending freedom and unrestrictive lifestyles. Therefore, by the way of preconceived mental pictures due to misrepresentation of Islam, they conclude that without religious visibility, lives are much easier. Both camps have a narrow understanding of the other which goes back to their lack of knowledge and understanding of their own worldview in the first place. It is the goal of this study to bring understanding of religion in the Western worldview by way of analysing the views of reverted German Muslim thinker and intellectual, Murad Wilfried Hofmann. He seems to be able to clarify in a natural way the current mediocre level of mutual understanding and puts forth a farsighted vision which is momentarily lacking on both sides. The methods of this study are qualitative and content analysis. The whole work of Murad Wilfried Hofmann with his views, thoughts, arguments and understanding are used to illustrate the need for a deep inner discernment of what one’s worldview is really leading further to understanding the other which encourages us to engage more actively through greater honesty with followers of other worldviews.
