Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a common procedure and first-line treatment for infertility. However, there are many controversies regarding the best time interval between human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) injection with IUI to achieve the best pregnancy rate. The aim of this study is to compare between 40 hours and 48 hours time points interval of hCG injection prior to IUI that will result in a higher pregnancy rate. This prospective randomised study involved one hundred and fourty participants who were scheduled for IUI in Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) Kuala Terengganu from 1st March 2018 until 20th December 2018. These women were divided into two groups where the intervention group was administered with hCG at 48 hours while the control group was administered at 40 hours prior to IUI. The baseline demographic and treatment response were similar between these two groups. The pregnancy rate was found to be higher in the control group with 8.9% compared to the intervention group, which was at 2.9%. However, no statistically significant was achieved, with a p value of 0.08. No high order pregnancy in this study. In conclusion, hCG can be administered between 40 hours and 48 hours prior to IUI without significant differences in the pregnancy rate.
