    Cast care compliance : development and validation of an audio-visual educational material for patient

    This study was designed to develop an informative audio-visual material regarding cast care and validate its use as an educational material. Seventy-five participants in total were recruited from the Orthopaedic clinic in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Sabah and International Islamic University Malaysia Medical Centre, Pahang from January 2017 until September 2019. Twenty-five were involved in the needs assessment survey and the other fifty were asked to answer the satisfaction survey after viewing the educational audio-visual material. In the first part of the study there were 25 participants who answered the needs assessment survey. The second part of the study, there were 23 male and 27 female participants with the mean age of 28.8 years old. There were 17 male and 8 female participants with mean age of 33.9 years old. In the needs assessment survey all participants agreed that there is a need for an audio-visual material regarding cast care with 95% CI [88.4%,100%] with best point estimate of 96.3%, measured using the adjusted Wald method and Laplace method. In the second part of the study, participants were asked to give out their satisfaction score for the audio-visual material based on whether the content was interesting, helpful, straightforward and informative as well as participant would think the content is much better in this form and whether they are very satisfied and learn a lot from it. The mean score for each category were above the mean score of 6 and comparatively to the favorable satisfied score of 6, p value <0.001 for each category with 95% confidence level. This study concludes that the use of audio-visual educational material should be considered in terms of spreading medical information regarding cast care.
