    The relationship between stress and student`s academic achievement at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia

    This study examined the relationship between stress and students` academic achievement at Pondok Modem Darussalam Gontor (PMDG), Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia. An attempt was also made to investigate the level of stress among students at this pondok based on seven factors; time management, physical factor, emotional factor, cognitive factor, school factor, peer factor and family factor. For these purposes, a questionnaire was specifically designed for getting information from the respondents. A questionnaire, using the Five Points Likert Scale, was employed as an instrument to collect the data. Two hundred and fifty (250) students of class five were chosen as respondents of this study. The data was analyzed using the descriptive and inference statistics of the SPSS-Version 13.0 Programme. The findings indicated that there was positive correlation between stress and academic achievement among students of Pondok Modem Darussalam Gontor. The correlation was .43 and sig..00, p < .01. The highest correlation was obtained by cognitive factor and academic achievement with r = .48 and p < .01. Furthermore, the level of stress among students of Pondok Modem Darussalam Gontor is at a moderate level (m=2.70). Finally, the study provided recommendations for the Head of the Pondok, teachers on how to help and manage the students in order to improve their academic achievement. This study also suggested further research.
