This study deals with the Qur’anic variant readings of the farsh type (i.e. the irregular type) within the scope of the fourth and fifth segments (juz’) of the Qur’an. The researcher found that such variance occurs in verbs, nouns as well as particles. At the specific locations where the farsh variance occurs, there are variances that create multiple meanings whilst there are also those that do not. This research concentrates on the former and not the latter. The researcher collected all occurrences of this feature and worked first on understanding the explicit meanings of the verses before going deeper by attempting to discover the rhetorical rationale for the occurrence of each variance at the exact place where it occurs in the said two segments of the Qur’an. In doing that, the researcher carefully considered both the surrounding text (co-text) and the situational contexts. The researcher reached a conclusion that at each occurrence, the farsh variance entails a multiplicity of meanings that is uniquely pertinent to its specific context. And this, in turn, shows another dimension of the widely touted rhetorical eloquence of the Holy Qur’an.
