This research aims to study the real meaning of the title Lin which has been used by Ibn Hajar in his book Tahdhib al-Tahdhib. It also analyzes the status of the narrators (ruwat) who have been labeled by him as Lin. This study relies on three main methods namely; inductive, analytical and critical. It is concluded that the meaning of the title Lin used by Ibn Hajar in his book Tahdhib al-Tahdhib is different from the meaning used by the other scholars and also by Ibn Hajar himself in his other books. Most of the narrators (ruwat) who have been labeled as Lin are in accordance to what he has defined. However, a number of them do not comply with the meaning of the title. They can be considered as weak (du’afa’) and their hadiths can be accepted by the scholars with certain conditions.
