The researcher believes these poems need to be studied by analyzing his character and doctrine. Thus, the researcher has conducted an analytical approach on the poems’ language, style, rhythm, music and some of the quotations used from the Quran, Hadith and predecessors’ sayings in order to understand them better. The researcher has to apply the descriptive and analytical methods as tools to proof that Abu al- ‘Atahiyyah was a learned man and honest in his asceticism, being influenced obviously by the Quran and Hadith. It is found that he used ‘moqatta’at’ form in his poems which indicates that the system created in his poems was worthy.arCopyright International Islamic University MalaysiaAbu 'Atahiyah, Isma'il ibn al-Qasim, -- 747 or 8-829?Authors, Arab -- BiographyAsceticism in literatureAsceticism -- Poetryأبو العتاهية وشعره فى الزهد ومكارم الأخلاق :دراسة فنية جماليةMaster ThesisAbu al-'Atahiyyat wa shi'ruhu fi al-zuhd wa makarim al-akhlaq :dirasat fanniyah jamaliyah
