Abstract

This research aims to examine dhikr from Qur’an and Sunnah perspective as well as it reflection on the meaning of adhkar and acting upon those meanings. As one of the effect of those meanings reforms the heart and body. This revelation is considered as wellness remedy and spiritual cure for every sickness. That is why it is very important for Muslims to perfectly use it as a form of healing. The main objectives of this research is to explore the meaning of dhikr, and the usage of dhikr in healing the illness of hearts and body. In order to achieve this objective, the research adopts descriptive inductive method by tracing all Qur’anic verses and authentic ḥadiths of the Prophet related to dhikr, with thorough consideration on how dhikr contextualizes in medication perspective. Moreover, the study utilizes analytical approach in the subject matter. The finding shows that meditation of verses of the Qur’ān and the adhkar from the Prophet’s Sunnah should be done with understanding of what was recited from the verses and adhkar with the presence of heart, sincerity and submissiveness of the body. The implication of this may lead to better spiritual state and increase in faith. In order to attain these many great benefits of dhikr, the study suggests that it is very important to reconsider the method of observing the divine remedy. Additionally, it is also recommended to explore dhikr from meditational perspective. Dhikr needs to be understood when it is recited, with presence of their meanings in the hearts followed by supplication to Allah in accordance with the meaning of the dhikr.
