Abstract
This research uses a descriptive analytical method to study the aspects of transformation in Arabic Grammar, especially in the general structures, problems and specific structures. It also handles the treatment by ancient Arab grammarians towards the applications of the dimensions of transformation based on the approaches to Arabic grammar and their theories, such as interpretation, reasoning, Qias and Istishab elhal. The importance of the research is in compiling the scattered aspects of transformation which are distributed in chapters of Arabic grammar books and the original Arabic grammar books. The compilation is then integrated as a complete theory of transformation in Arabic grammar. The research is divided into five chapters. The chapters deal with transformation in modern and ancient Arabic linguistics studies, the transformation in the approaches to Arabic grammar and their theories, aspects of transformation in the different grammatical structures, and the rules of transformation in Arabic grammar. At the end of the study, several findings are reached. The most important finding is that the ancient Arabic grammarians had employed the principle of transformation in the interpretation of many grammatical structures through a number of transformation rules such as addition and deletion, and rearrangement and replacement. They were also concerned in adjusting the relationship between the apparent meaning of a sentence and the standardized grammar rules; therefore, they used the rules of transformation.
