Abstract
This thesis, which is a morphological, grammatical and semantic study, traces the irregular readings in Sura Al – Baqara and compares and contrasts them based on known grammatical and morphological rules. The researcher shows where these irregular readings fit among the continuously recurrent readings, the semantic differences and similarities between them, and what these irregular readings have linguistically added to the continuously recurrent readings on the topic. The researcher has adopted the Hafs from Asim bin Abi Al Najood's reading while often citing from others. Shawath Al Qiraat by Abu Abdullah Al – Kirmani as an origin for irregular readings has also been taken into account. The research concludes that not all irregular readings are incorrect as some are linguistically original and correct. This might be due to the lack of use by the Arabs or because these readings use unusual linguistic rules. In addition, sometimes these readings have different linguistic meanings or another grammatical rule. On top of that, these irregular readings carry moral connotations that do not exist in continuously recurrent readings. More attention should be given to these readings and adopt them as origins for grammar alongside continuously recurrent readings and to consider the authenticity of the source as the origin for correct readings.
