Abstract

This study aims to study, the diwan of Amir al-Mu’minin Muhammad Bello al-‎Nigeri, which is also known as “Ifadah al-Talibin biba‘ḍi Qasa’id Amir al-Mu’minin ‎Muhammad Bello” (Informing Learners about Some of the Poems of Amir al-‎Mu’minin, Muhammad Bello). This diwan resembles a collection of poems, collected ‎by al-Wazir Junayd. It contains a large number of poems, some of which touch on ‎emotions, like praise, lamentation, entreat, romance, advice and guidance, and the ‎topics that have emotional inclination. Some of the poems also touch on ‎contemplation and topics related to thinking. All of these are filled with general ‎rhetorical phenomena, particularly the creative ones. The diwan carries some ‎beautiful poems that illustrate the advancement in science and literature during the ‎era of the poet. It also illustrates the historical events that took place involving the ‎followers of the reformative call of Shaykh Uthman dan Fodio and the followers of ‎the opposing parties who fought against the people of the iman. It is certain that the ‎script is a historical slate for the challenges faced by the Islamic State of Sokoto. It ‎also stands as the best example of Arabic poetry in the 19th century. In fact, Arabs ‎have said that in the past, poetry is the diwan of the Arabs. The researcher seeks to ‎study the life of this scholar and his poetry. He also analyses its rhetoric, so to ‎understand the extent of the poet’s ability to compose poems, which contains Arabic ‎rhetoric sciences, especially from the perspective of ‘Ilm al-Badi’. Therefore, the ‎researcher explaines and analyses ‘Ilm al-Badi’ from verbal and content angles, such ‎as al-Tibaq, al-Muqabalah, al-Taqsim, al-Tayy wa al-Nashr, al-Irsad, al-Jinas, al-‎Saj', al-Iqtibas, al-Ihmal wa al-I'jam, and al-Muwazanah. He also studies the ability ‎of the poet in composing poems, using the art of eloquence, especially with regards ‎to ‘Ilm al-Badi’. The researcher examines these poems and their impact on the poems ‎of Amir al-Mu’minin Muhammad Bello and anything that relate to this art.
