Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role played by the school social counselor in solving the behavioral problems of students in Omani schools which resulted from the use of social media, either related to their social relationships, family relationships, or their academic achievement. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the analytical descriptive approach, through the social survey method represented in the sample that represents the study population of School social counselors, in some governorates (Dhofar, Muscat, North Al Batinah) with a total number of (600) school social counselors. 600 questionnaires were distributed to the entire research population, a sum of 553 questionnaires were retrieved, with a response rate of 92.2%. The results indicated several aspects, such: the level of school social counselor’s role in confronting students’ behavioral problems through experience and professional training in the Ministry of Education, and facing students’ behavioral problems at school in the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman was high, as well as in confronting students’ behavioral problems through the counselors’ familiarities with modern social media. Also, the results indicated that the level of the school counselors’ role in solving students’ behavioral problems through cooperation with the family are high. The study recommended that school social counselors should practice modern trends in the field of specialization to support professional programs in facing all the problems and behaviors that occurred in the school among students (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavioral modification, intellectual therapy, and others). Strengthening students’ faith through seminars and symposiums to explain the positive roles that young people can play when communicating through social media and information technology.
