Abstract
This study aimed at identifying the teachers' role in creating political awareness amongst the twelve grade students in Jerusalem and its relationship with certain variables: gender, and the student’s academic field. The study used descriptive methodology and a random sample was selected from the schools which followed to the Palestinian authority. This sample amounted to (441) male and female students during the first semester of the academic year (2011/2012). To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire in accordance with educational literature. To establish the validity of the instrument, it was presented to a committee of referees who are specialists in the field. Reliability coefficient was computed by using Cronbach alppha which amounted to (0.960). The study found that the students of the twelve grade in Jerusalem have the minimum level of the political information based on the list of questions which used in the questionnaire, and it found that the teacher is holing up his role in creating political awareness amongst the twelve grade students in Jerusalem, but that role is not enough comparing with the current situation in Jerusalem and Palestine in general. And that no differences attributable to students sex variables, toward the teachers' role in creating political awareness amongst the twelve grade students in Jerusalem, while there are simple differences due to the factor of specialization. And finally, the study concluded with several recommendations, increasing the efforts and time to discuss some issues related to the practical life in Jerusalem.
