Abstract
This study investigates Teachers’ and Students’ perception towards the usage of Information Technology (IT) in teaching of Arabic as a second language in Islamic traditional schools in Sri Lanka. The study identifies to what extent the IT is being used in their schools, the familiarity and acquaintance of teachers in using IT and the recommendation of teachers and students for the enhancement of its usage. The sample of the study includes fifty one teachers and sixty seven students of schools from two provinces; western and southern. The researcher adopted descriptive method in which questionnaire and interview were used as instrument for data collection. The data were analyzed using SPSS based on frequency distribution, frequency table and percentage. The study found out that the usage of IT was not sufficient in these schools, the teachers had insufficient knowledge in this area, they were not using IT in teaching though most of the teachers and students were very much interested in increasing the usage of IT. A few of them had negative perceptions with regard to the usage of it. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher proposes some suggestions and opinions to enhance the standard of the teaching at the Islamic traditional schools in Sri Lanka.
