Abstract

The research aims to identify the impact of using concept maps on the acquisition of Arabic language concepts among secondary school students in Al-Baseerah school. It examined multiple cases of concept map use by seven students and three teachers at Al-Baseerah school in order to know the effect of concept maps in raising the educational level of the students, especially in Al-Baseerah school, whether they had a positive impact on the students’ studies and educational process, and whether teachers found them useful in educating students. The research also discussed the previous experiences of the students and teachers. The researcher utilized the descriptive method in this research using a case study, which is a method used to obtain as much information as possible from an individual. Therefore, a variety of tools were used such as personal meetings, notes taking and group interviews. The study found that Al-Baseerah students used concept maps to remember and memorize complicated concepts because they are an effective strategy in comprehension and memorizing, which has been proven in previous studies. It was also found that teachers used concept maps for various materials including Arabic language, as a strategy of teaching to simplify concepts for students and encourage them to study. This might be a reason that made students highly passionate about their subjects. Al-Baseerah teachers have attested that the use of concept maps is one of the study strategies used in organization and summarization, particularly of complex concepts, and have stated that they often used concept maps to organize lessons and to summarize information.
